A Dramatic, Provocative Invitation for Lent 2011

A New Day

You are invited to a new, provocative and spirit stirring Lenten Experience.  Beginning Ash Wednesday  March 9th at 6:30pm and continuing each Wednesday through Holy Week we  will explore a new spiritual experience produced by the creators of Rob Bell’s  NOOMA Series.

You will meet Francis Chan, founder and former Pastor of Cornerstone Church, one of the largest of the mega churches in the USA.  His experiences at Cornerstone Church led to the birth of this exciting, challenging and paradigm breaking new ministry.  Chan said of this new series:

"If I only had this as my guide... if all I had was the Bible...and I was to read this book and then start a 'church' what would it look like? Would it look like the thing that we've built here and all refer to as church? Or would it look radically different?"

According to Mr. Chan, “trends come and go in our culture and the church seems to follow.”  He asks these questions about the church:

·         What is church?
·         Who is it for?
·         Is it broken?
·         Can it be better?

With this as a foundation, Francis presents Jesus and discipleship in a way you have never experienced before.

Our Lenten Journey with Francis Chan begins Wednesday, March 9th at 6:30 and ends at 6:55pm just in time for Lenten Services.  Our first study is titled “BASIC. Follow Jesus.”

I am more excited about this study than all alivewire forum presentations combined.  This “Mini” forum will challenge you during your Lenten Journey to examine who we believe that we are as the called, gathered and sent people of God - Pilgrim Lutheran Church!

This  “mini” forum will  address a single question or issue as presented  in Mr. Chan’s video.  Additionally,  I will provide each of you with a study guide and a recommended reading list for your use during lent.

To facilitate our discussion and to encourage wider involvement I created the alivewire blog, located at http://www.alivewire.blogspot.com/, for your use to express thoughts and ideas on the topics presented by Mr. Chan.

For more information I can be reached via email at sandygibson@sc.rr.com and via telephone at 803-530-0878.  I look forward to seeing you on March 9th at 6:30pm.

We are meeting in Youth Center, located beneath the Chapel.  Signs will be posted to direct you to the class location.

I look forward to seeing you – make this gathering a part of your Lenten discipline.

Come Journey With Us, it will change your life -- I guarantee it.

God’s Peace,
